Cookie Policy

Last updated: January 18, 2025

This policy explains how TapNN uses cookies and similar technologies to recognize you when you visit our website. It explains what these technologies are and why we use them, as well as your rights to control our use of them.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently and to provide information to the website owners.

We also use similar technologies such as local storage and session storage, which function similarly to cookies.

2. How We Use Cookies

TapNN uses cookies for the following purposes:

Essential Cookies

These cookies are necessary for the website to function properly. They enable core functionality such as security, network management, and account access. You cannot opt out of these cookies.

CookiePurposeDuration
__clerk_*Authentication and session managementSession / 1 year
__client_uatUser authentication token1 year

Functional Cookies

These cookies enable personalized features and remember your preferences.

CookiePurposeDuration

qr_preferencesSaves your QR code design preferences1 year

Analytics Cookies

TapNN uses a privacy-preserving analytics approach inspired by Plausible Analytics. We do not use third-party analytics cookies. Our QR code scan tracking uses a daily rotating hash (SHA-256) to determine unique scans without ever storing IP addresses or raw user-agent strings. The hash salt is automatically deleted after 48 hours, making cross-day re-identification impossible.

No third-party analytics cookies are set. Cloudflare provides our CDN layer and may set minimal first-party performance cookies (e.g., __cf_bm) for bot management purposes. These are strictly functional and not used for cross-site tracking.

3. Third-Party Cookies

Some cookies are placed by third-party services that appear on our pages:

  • Clerk — Authentication service, necessary for login functionality
  • Stripe — Payment processing, only on checkout pages

These third parties have their own privacy policies governing how they use cookies.

4. Managing Cookies

Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can:

  • View what cookies are stored on your device
  • Delete all or specific cookies
  • Block cookies from specific or all websites
  • Block third-party cookies
  • Accept or reject cookies when they are set

Note: Blocking essential cookies may prevent you from using certain features of our Service, including logging in.

Browser-Specific Instructions

5. Local Storage

In addition to cookies, we use browser local storage to save your QR code preferences and draft QR codes locally on your device. This data never leaves your browser unless you explicitly save it to your account.

You can clear local storage through your browser's developer tools.

6. Do Not Track

Some browsers have a "Do Not Track" feature that signals to websites that you do not want to be tracked. We currently do not respond to Do Not Track signals, but we limit our tracking to what is described in this policy.

7. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. Please check this page periodically for updates.
